Albert Park Project
Middlesbrough Council commissioned two Gates, a Bridge Parapet and Pedestrian Guard Rails for Albert Park in 2000. The entrance to the Park is a crucial indicator to the public of what they might find inside. The intention was to create a design with a contemporary feel that could be representative of the heart of the Park, visually moving the Park into the next stage of its life.
The opportunity arose to create over seventy cast coloured glass discs with different user groups of the Park to add a jewel like quality to the overall structure, allowing natural light to play with the glass.
Activity Centre Roof light Windows and Screen
A further commission was to create internal panels for two roof lights in the new Activity Centre and to work with groups who had previously worked with on the gates and bridge. It was the intention to reflect some of these ideas in the Centres Roof lights, using the theme of the countryside as the anchor.
A strong tonal colour was used in order to create a living palette. As the day lengthens, the reflected colour moves and interacts with the internal space of this building breathing life into to the new key building within the refurbished Park.
